As someone who often travels for both work and play, I understand first hand the thrills and challenges that come with flying. Whether you’re traveling for business, gearing up for an adventurous vacation, or visiting family, navigating airports doesn’t have to be a hurdle to your well-being. With more air miles than I can count, I put together my top tips help you travel smarter, maintain your fitness routine, and enhance your overall travel experience. Read on for practical tips to make your next travel day a bit better.

  1. Embrace the Stairs: Next time you're faced with the choice between stairs and an elevator, opt for the stairs! Not only does it give you a little boost of exercise, but your backside will appreciate it down the line. A team of scientists from Concordia University’s PERFORM Centre found something fascinating: regular stair-climbers actually reverse their brain age by 0.58 years each year! Just by tackling a couple of flights daily, you're giving your brain a solid workout. It's a simple and effective way to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. So why not start climbing and give your brain a boost?
  2. Opt for Healthier Airport Eats: When ordering airport food, lean towards healthier choices like fruits, nuts, or minimally processed proteins without heavy sauces or added sugars.   3. Stay Hydrated: Fill up your water bottle after passing through security. The dry air on planes can leave you parched, so staying hydrated is essential for feeling your best upon arrival.   4. Pack a Jacket: Airports tend to be chilly, so always bring a sweater or jacket. Avoid the inconvenience (and expense) of buying one on the spot if you find yourself shivering during your layover.
  5. Dress Comfortably, Stay Stylish: Opt for comfortable attire when traveling, but aim to look presentable. If your luggage goes missing, you'll still feel confident and put together upon arrival, saving you stress and ensuring you can keep your plans intact.
  6. Charge Up: Before heading to the airport, ensure all your electronics are fully charged. This eliminates the hassle of hunting for outlets or lugging around heavy chargers, especially if there's a last-minute gate change and you find yourself sprinting to catch your flight.
