Preserve the lush in your lash with these three simple tips.
For that roll-out-of-bed-beautiful look, a lot of women turn towards eyelash extensions. After the initial installation and/or follow-up treatments, however, they might not realize there is any other upkeep. These three simple tips can help prevent damage to your extensions and preserve the lush in your lash.
For about 24-36 hours after your extension treatment, try to avoid washing your face. In order to let the adhesive dry for as long as possible, you will also want to stay away from a steamy shower or sauna as the moisture in the water can loosen your lashes. If you must wash your face, use lukewarm water only and keep it away from your eyes.
Once the 24-36 hours have passed, you will have water proof lashes! Do be gentle when touching your eyes with wet or moist products in order to preserve the extensions, but you don't have to worry about submerging them in a shower, pool, or other body of water.
Check to see if any of your face lotions, cleansers, or makeup removers contain any oils. If they do, replace them with an oil-free version as the oils can break down the adhesive in the extensions. If you tend towards an oily complexion or sweat a lot at the gym (hi, that's me), think about using blotting pads or oil-control makeup in order to alleviate excess oils around the eyes. You also will want to stay away from any waterproof products as they require more vigorous scrubbing during removal. When cleaning your lashes every couple of days, just dab a small amount of baby shampoo around your lashes for a gentle clean.
Especially if you are new to extensions, you might unknowingly reach up and start touching, rubbing, or pulling on your lashes. Hands off! The more you touch them, the more likely the oils on your fingers will strain the adhesive. If you do not like the feeling of extensions and want to remove them, do not do so yourself. Revisit the extension studio so they can professionally remove the extensions and keep your natural eyelashes and eyelids safe.
